Honor Juneteenth, Honor Freedom!
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
For years, many celebrate Independence Day, for us as a Black Nation, we celebrate Juneteenth. As Healers, Artists, Organizers and community people, we should always be in this work for freedom.
Be critical and ask questions, if something doesn't feel right, speak to someone about it and continue to ask questions. Our Freedom work starts with recognizing that slavery has ended and we are still in need for healing.
For us at Fanm Saj, we are doing this work for Healing justice because we have experienced enough trauma, pain and fear to know that this is not about any one individual, but it is about our collective trauma's and pain! The largest trauma that we have faced is Slavery so to celebrate the END of SLAVERY is a given!
We celebrate Juneteenth, June 19th as OUR COLLECTIVE Independence Day! We will continue to provide healing spaces because we deserve it! And it is our BIRTHRIGHT to always seek justice and healing!
This Juneteenth, consider donating $19 to support our Freedom work!
